About the PEI Seniors' Secretariat

What is the role of the Seniors' Secretariat?

The Seniors’ Secretariat is a provincial body created to provide policy and program advice to government and other organizations to improve the quality of life for seniors. The Seniors’ Secretariat also develops and supports public education efforts about issues of importance to seniors and gathers information and research on related issues.

The Secretariat has several priority areas for action:

  • Improving personal safety and financial security
  • Addressing social isolation
  • Aging well in the right place
  • Promoting age-friendly communities and practices
  • Reducing ageism and promoting positive images of aging
  • Promoting access to information on available programs and services for seniors

Who does the Seniors' Secretariat report to?

The Seniors' Secretariat reports to the Minister of Social Development and Seniors.

Who serves on the Seniors' Secretariat?

The Seniors’ Secretariat has 13 members: 10 members from senior-serving organizations, and three members at large. Members at large are appointed from among individuals who apply through Engage PEI.
