Economic Development, Innovation and Trade

The Department of Economic Development, Innovation and Trade works to advance a healthy and sustainable Island economy through strategic sector growth, economic expansion and various social enterprise initiatives.

Some of the priorities in the mandate are:

• Continue investment in growing sectors such as the Bioscience and Cleantech industries by providing funding and programming that supports their further development and growth;
• Expand high-speed internet access to the remaining 4% of households;
• Working with the federal government, develop a plan to address the lack of reliable and consistent cell phone coverage in the province;
• Develop a plan to expand on Prince Edward Island’s success in the New England region, diversifying PEI’s export market to the New York and surrounding states
