Emergency Jobs Initiative Program

This program provides assistance for businesses, non-profit organizations, and municipalities for Hurricane Fiona recovery and clean-up.

What is the eligibility criteria for this program?

Eligible Groups:

Eligible groups must be located on Prince Edward Island and can include:

  • Private businesses;
  • Non-profit organizations/cooperatives; and
  • Municipal governments.

Eligible Employees:

Eligible employees must be:

  • Located in Prince Edward Island and be eligible to work in Canada;
  • 18 years or older.

Eligible Positions:

  • Provide support to hire additional labour to aid in the clean-up from Hurricane Fiona.

What is ineligible?

Ineligible project costs include but are not limited to:

  • Materials;
  • Supplies;
  • Rentals;
  • Travel;
  • Telephone; or
  • Other core business costs.

Applicants must receive notice of approval prior to the employee starting work or may risk forfeiting the Emergency Jobs Initiative Funding.

Immediate family of the applicant will NOT be eligible for program funding.

What kind of funding contribution is available for Hurricane Fiona support?

The Emergency Jobs Initiative will provide wage subsidy funding of 100% for up to 4 weeks (40 hours per week and maximum $15 per hour) to aid in Hurricane Fiona recovery and clean-up.

Mandatory Employers Related Costs (MERCs) such as EI, CPP and Workers Compensation Premiums are the responsibility of the employer.

How do I apply?

Applicants must submit a completed application form using the blue button at the bottom of this page. The application must outline the nature of the positions, duties, and how the positions will benefit the organization. Applicants must also provide a Workers Compensation Board Firm number.

What is the project deadline?

Projects must be completed by November 25, 2022.

Employers must ensure that proper safety practices are being followed.
