Hillsborough Bridge active transportation pathway is open

The new Hillsborough Bridge active transportation pathway is open, providing a key connection between the City of Charlottetown and the Town of Stratford.

The new pathway was designed for human-powered transportation, such as cycling, walking, skateboarding, rollerblading, power assist e-bikes and wheelchairs.  It is part of the Province’s vision for a network of green commuting options, emphasizing active transportation as an alternative to motorized vehicles.

This $4 million project was split between the provincial and federal governments with funding support from the New Building Canada Fund.

The Hillsborough Bridge Active Transportation Pathway will greatly increase the ability of our residents to travel between Stratford and Charlottetown for work or leisure, while also providing a connection for Charlottetown residents to easily visit Stratford. This project has been a top priority of our staff and Council for many years, as well as by residents who identified it year after year in our Annual Resident Survey. We would like thank the provincial and federal governments for their funding towards this project, and to acknowledge the leadership of organizations such as Recreation PEI, Cycling PEI and Bike Friendly Communities who have also supported this project.
