Health PEI Accreditation

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is an evaluation process based on an external review. Accreditation Canada awarded Health PEI Accreditation Status following an intensive external review of facilities, programs, and services in August 2022. This Accreditation status remains in effect for four years.

What does Health PEI accreditation mean for me?

Achieving Accreditation status confirms that Health PEI services meet national standards of excellence.

What is included in an external review?

A team of Accreditation Canada surveyors:

  • tour Health PEI facilities;
  • interview patients, clients, residents, community partners, physicians and staff;
  • trace episodes of care from the initial visit (assessments, care plans, and transfer of care); and
  • review service excellence as well as laboratory, diagnostic imaging, medication management, infection control, critical care, and surgical processes.

How will the accreditation process impact Health PEI?

The Accreditation Canada Survey Report identifies strengths within the organization as well as areas for improvement. Health PEI uses the external review to assess the quality and safety of health services and works to address each recommendation and reports ongoing progress to Accreditation Canada.

Achieving Accreditation Status reinforces our commitment to using evidence and best practice as the basis for decision-making and prioritizing the work.
