PEI Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Inc.

The purpose of the Board is to recognize and pay tribute to those PEI athletes and builders of sport who have brought special honour to the province.

What is the function of the board?

The Board is responsible for:

  • (a) the collection of artifacts, photographs, and other memorabilia relating to and illustrating the history of sport on PEI, and to display such collections;
  • (b) making appeals for funds;
  • (c) maintaining affiliations with other organizations.

Primary Role:  Non-adjudicative

How many people are on the board?

The affairs of the Corporation shall be managed and controlled by a board of four directors, one of whom shall be the chairman (elected from among the Directors). The directors shall be representative of the Counties of Prince Edward Island such that not less than one and not more than two Directors shall be appointed for each of Kings, Queens and Prince counties. The Chairman shall be elected from among the Board of Directors.

What are the requirements of board members?

Formal Qualifications
Expertise regarding various aspects of sport.

Work & Experience Requirements
A general knowledge of the history of sport on PEI is recommended.

Skills Required
Consistent with purpose and material role (shown above).

What are the nomination requirements?

Statutory Nomination Requirements
The directors shall be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council. The Board of Directors shall nominate members for appointment, and Executive Council shall approve members.

Traditional Nomination Requirements
The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint all members. The Board of Directors shall have the power to fill any vacancies which may occur among the Directors, on a temporary basis, until a replacement Director has been duly appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council.

Will I get paid?

No remuneration.

What is the time commitment of the board?

Variable. Dependent on priorities and activities undertaken at a point in time to support the organization, and to recognize significant achievements by PEI athletes and builders.

The Board will usually meet between 6-8 times per year, with meetings rotated between the three counties.

An individual shall be reappointed by the Board for a period of one, two or three years at which time he or she shall be eligible for re-appointment.
