Community Care Facilities and Nursing Homes Board

The primary objectives of the Community Care Facilities and Nursing Homes Board are to ensure the provision in facilities of accommodation, care services and nursing services that are safe, of good quality and appropriate to the needs of the residents.

What is the function of the board?

To license facilities; To advise on standards for facilities and the care and services provided in them; To monitor the operations of facilities and ensure adherence to prescribed standards; To provide guidance on matters of assessment and placement; To provide guidance with respect to levels of charges.

How many people are on the board and what are the nomination requirements?

  •  The Board shall be composed of nine (9) members appointed by the Minister, consisting of
  • (a) six members of the public who represent various community perspectives and possess the skills, knowledge, experience and competencies the Minister considers necessary to ensure the effective governance of the Board; and 
  • (b) three persons employed in the planning, administration or delivery of health or social services in the public sector.

Advisory, Strategic Development and Managerial/Oversight skills.

Will I get paid?

Chair - $161/diem and Members - $109/diem.

What is the time commitment of the board?

Monthly meetings (1/2 to 1 day each, plus advance review of materials). Special meetings as required.

Appointments shall be for a maximum of three years and shall be so adjusted as to maintain a staggered turnover of terms.
