Canton Café: Immigration at Work

Owner of the Canton Cafe:

Vinh Nguyen moved to PEI from with his family of 5 in October 2014.  Vinh and his wife Thuy Hong purchased Canon Café and was excited to learn about the restaurant industry on PEI.

It was important to Vinh to preserve this business to ensure it continued to operate. Canton Café has been a local landmark on Queen Street for 25 years.  Vinh and his wife have worked hard to learn all aspects of the business so they could understand what their clients expect in order to deliver a quality experience.  When a customer goes to Canton Café they can expect to be greeted by either Vinh or Thuy at the front counter.  They recognized the importance of improving their English so they can communicate with their clients, staff and supplier so they attend language training to improve their communication skills.

When they purchased the restaurant they recognized the need to maintain the service customers enjoyed so they worked to keep the existing staff.  Maintaining the staff has also helped Thuy and Vinh learn about the business as this was a new industry for each of them.

The couple hopes to expand the menu in the future by offering new menu items.  The new items they hope to introduce are traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Vinh prides himself on providing great customer service to his clients.  He and his family enjoy the peace and tranquility offered to them living on PEI.
