Canada Greener Homes - Information for Islanders
Island homeowners may continue to apply for the Free Heat Pump program or provincial energy efficiency rebates.
The Government of Canada offers the Canada Greener Homes Grant and the Canada Greener Homes Loan Program.
This program provides Canadians with energy efficient incentives to upgrade their homes. Participants may be eligible for up to $5,600 under the grant.
Islanders can access both the Canada Greener Homes Grant and efficiencyPEI rebates.

What’s available through the Canada Greener Homes Grant?
- Grants of up to $5,000 to help homeowners make energy efficient retrofits to their homes, such as better insulation, heating systems and more.
- EnerGuide evaluations (worth up to $600) and expert advice to homeowners so they can begin to plan their retrofits
The Government of Canada will be providing updates over the life of the initiative to keep homeowners informed.
Am I eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant?
To receive the Canada Greener Homes Grant, you must register with the federal government and you are required to have an Energuide Evaluation completed before any work starts.
When you register, the federal government will give you more information on the eligibility criteria. New construction is not eligible.
You may be eligible for Canada Greener Homes Grants even if you have received, or are receiving, efficiencyPEI rebates, and vice versa.
The combined funding through both programs must not be larger than the cost of the equipment or installation. Eligibility and upgrade types may be different for each program.
What is the Canada Greener Homes Loan Program?
The Canada Greener Homes Loan Program offers up to $40,000 of interest-free financing in addition to the Canada Greener Homes Grant and our provincial programs.
This program is to help homeowners complete some of the retrofits recommended by Energy Advisors.
The loan is administered jointly by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Canada Mortgage & Housing (CMHC).
